Trainee Anaesthetic Technician / Assistant, Perioperative Services

We are inviting applications from the following professional groups to train in the speciality of anaesthetic technology in the Operating Theatres at Auckland DHB:

  • Registered Nurses 
  • Enrolled Nurses
  • Paramedics
  • Pharmacist
  • Vet Nurses 

The qualifications run by AUT University are a Graduate Certificate in Science (Anaesthetic Technology) or Diploma in Applied Science (Anaesthetic Technology). The training programme is approved by the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand.

In this role, you need to be ready to work full time in an “on the job” training position in addition to enrolling at AUT University for the academic part of your qualification. This is a paid full-time training and study program for 2 -3 years starting in October 2017. Depending on your current qualifications and / or clinical experience, it is anticipated that you will be able to apply for reduced clinical training time which will shorten the training period.

We have a fantastic team within the Operating Theatre departments at Auckland DHB who will support you through your training and ensure you gain the right skills and knowledge to gain your qualification. 

To be successful in this training role, you will:-

  • have at least 1 year full time (equivalent) clinical experience
  • have a relevant and NZQA approved health qualification in relation to the above mentioned professions (Note: some partially completed qualifications may also be relevant)
  • be able to work a 40 hour week as well as studying for at least 10-15 hours per week in your own time
  • have a hard working and flexible attitude
  • thrive on achieving the very highest standards in your work
  • have excellent communication skills, a level head and an ability to 'think on your feet'
  • be able to emulate ADHB values
  • have an aptitude for mastering practical skills and be meticulously organised and efficient
